PAST EVENTS
March 18th, 2016 Today, marks the turning point where we have longer days than nights! Here at Lunar Laundry we are all looking forward to Spring! If you have started to transition to your summer bedding, please consider washing your comforters before storing them until next winter. You can drop them off and have us wash and fold them. In addition, we place them in breathable storage bag to make it easy. If you prefer to wash them on your own we also offer these bags for purchase. Often two blankets can fit in one washer! (If they are super thick only one might fit).
Mar 17, 2015 Happy St Patrick's Day! We have discovered that the original drain line in the laundromat has filled with loose change. We need to shut down the washers on the east side of the laundromat while we try to clear the coins. This is a good reminder to check your pockets before washing! We hope the vacuum truck does the trick, otherwise we will need to cut open the floor and repair the drain line. Fingers crossed that the vacuum truck works!
Oct 28, 2014 I would like to announce that our Jumbo Dryers now accept the dollar coins. No need to switch dollars to quarters or put in so many coins. Try it out next time you are in the laundromat!
We are open on Fourth of July our regular hours for self-service. Our attendant will work from 9 am to 5 pm in order to have time to celebrate Indepence Day.
Summer time means eating berries. To treat a berry stain, boil some water and then pour it from a height, about 1 foot above the garment. The hot water will magically take away the berry stain. It is best to do this as soon as possible. Enjoy the tastes of Summer!!

Thanks to those that joined us for cake and coffee on March 2nd, to say Farewell to Matt! This was Matt's last day before he moved on to an internship in graphic design. He was a wonderful addition to Lunar Laundry for the last two years. He will be missed by all. Thank you for your great service Matt!!
February 28, 2014 I want to write a note here about my employee Matt. He has been a wonderful addition to Lunar Laundry and will be missed when he moves on to his graphic design internship. While I knew the day would come, since he finished college recently, I hadn't fully prepared myself for his leaving. He has been a stellar employee always willing to help out, cover shifts, fix machines, and help customers with his bright smile and friendliness. He has been the most trustworthy and dedicated employee a person could ever want. I wish you well Matt and I am so thankful for the time you worked for me. I hope to see you soon to hear about your new success!! -Heidi
January 30, 2014 It seems to be the season for washing comforters. Our large capacity washers can usually hold 2 Queen size comforters in the 4-load machine and 3 Queen size comforters in the 6-load machine. This just depends on the blanket thickness and size. Washing on the Light cycle will get things clean, but we recommend using the Med or Heavy soil cycles. Each of these will add an additional rinse and the Heavy cycle adds 4 minutes to the wash cycle. Blankets aren't often washed, so it may be worth the extra $0.50 to ensure that they are washed and rinsed thoroughly. If you are washing down comforters our attendant can run an additional spin to get the excess water out for you. Just ask for assistance during our attendant hours. We also have breathable comforter bags for sale when it is time to store them for the summer!
Our New T-Shirts Are Here!
We now offer Lunar Laundry T-shirts for $12.00 each.
We have Men's Medium-2XL and Women's Small-XL.
Come in during our attendant hours 9 am- 10 pm and pick one up.

With our siding done and our heater installed, we are ready for Fall and Winter weather. We could use everyone's help in keeping the dryer doors closed when the heater is turned on. The dryers are direct vents to the outside - our heater can only heat the laundromat, not the great outdoors.

I would like to take the time to thank all of you for making Lunar Laundry such a great place to work. My employees and I really appreciate the way everyone is friendly and helpful in the laundromat. Many times I have overheard our 'regulars' helping out a new customer, showing them the best way to use the machines. You also help in keeping the laundromat clean and inviting. We have had great cooperation in our recycling program. We are keeping over 100 gallons of detergent containers out of the landfill each week! So, thanks for being you and coming in to Lunar Laundry on your wash day!

NEW LINE UP 1
Come in and see our new washers and dryers! Gone are the days of waiting for a machine now that we have 4 Jumbo washers, 12 Extra-Large washers and 8 load and a half washers. Our new dryers are large enough to hold all of an Extra-Large four load washer, no more splitting loads into two dryers! We hope to see you soon at Lunar Laundry!!
NEW LINE UP 2
Sunday, April 21st, Starting some time in May we will begin offering drop off service at Lunar Laundry! We will increase our attendant hours as needed. This will not only allow us to do your laundry, but help our self-service customers as well. We look forward to this exciting new addition.
March 19th, Our Expansion is Open!! While all of the machines are up and running, we still have a few more finishing touches to complete. Everyone has been enjoying the 12 four-load machines and 4 six-load machines we have available. The new larger dryers hold all of a four-load machine making them perfect for big laundry days or comforters and sleeping bags.
Wednesday, Feb 13th, we are open our regular hours today. The water heater relocation went well yesterday thanks to Byrne Plumbing.
Monday, January 28th update: We will not be moving the water tank this week so We Will Have Hot Water all week. The new windows at the laundromat will be going in this week and the new concrete floor will be poured on Friday.
The concrete floor is in!
Friday, January 25th update: Today we will remove the last of the
old concrete floor with the jack hammer. We anticipate that the noise will be
from 8am to 11am, perhaps a little later. Please note that one day next week we
will have only cold water available while we move the water heater to its new
location. I will let you know the day as soon as I hear from the plumber. You
are all appreciated!

Our windows and door should be installed at the end of the month. We have finished the exterior framing and have poured the footing for the new windows. Next week will bring some concrete cutting and drain lines for the new washers. The concrete cutting should be much quieter than the jackhammer was! Thanks to all who muddled through the noisy parts this week.
January 8, 2013 We are well on our way to your new laundromat!
We have torn off the front of the store so we can measure for the new storefront windows and door. Today we have some jack hammering noise next door, but we are open. One of our dryers has been disconnected to make room for some seismic work for the next two days.
December 5, 2012 Happy Holidays to All
Many people have been calling about the best way to wash blankets. Our large washers will perform best if full, but not overstuffed. This means that you can usually wash two blankets or quilts in one washer and it will improve the balance and maintain the optimum spin speed. If you don't have two blankets to wash, consider adding a couple of towels to help balance the load. While it is tempting to use more soap, it is not necessary with larger items. Over-soaping will leave residue in your blanket that could irritate your skin. Down blankets are best washed with the delicate cycle to reduce strain on the fabric and feathers. Down will take a longer time to dry since the feathers naturally insulate and keep the heat from travelling to the center of the blanket. As with sleeping bags, (previous post) all blankets, especially down benefit from adding a few tennis balls to the dryer to help circulate the air and fluff up the filling. -May you have a cozy winter under your freshly laundered blankets!
Lunar Laundry WAS ExpandED in 2013
November 4, 2012
We will be expanding our store in January. After Crash Landing Pizza decided to move on, we chose to take over their space in order to bring our customers more machines. We will miss having pizza next door and wish Dan well in his next endeavor. Our customers will enjoy the addition of more large washers and some even larger dryers. I have included our latest design; as you can see we will be adding a restroom and a drop-off service. We anticipate closing only during days of utility connections. We look forward to opening the new store and thank our customers in advance for their patience through the construction process.

Oct 9, 2012 I have been getting many calls about the best time to come to the laundromat. While it can always change, the early mornings (any day of the week) tend to be the slower times. Sundays and Mondays are the busiest and Tuesdays the slowest. We have noticed that our store has increased business over the last year. We really appreciate all of our customers! Because of this, we are taking the opportunity to expand our laundromat next year. We hope to double the number of machines and we are considering adding a wash and fold service as well. There will be many new changes and some construction to live through, but we are very excited to bring you a bigger, better place to quickly take care of your laundry.
FULLY LOADED
Sept 19, 2012 Our new washers have been humming along. Johnny and I recently went to Wisconsin to attend a three day Service School for Speed Queen equipment. We learned much about repairing and maintaining the new equipment so we can continue to keep the machines working for you.
An important fact we learned is that our washers work best when fully loaded. Less than a full load and the machine can not balance as well and will automatically spin at a lower speed so as not to cause machine damage. So be sure to fill to the top (but don't push hard), when wet the clothes should drop down to the 3/4 line on the glass.
And as always, soap can be your enemy. Manufacturers want us to believe that more is better, but when it comes to washing you want to use the least amount possible to prevent over-sudsing. The bubbles can't drain and the machine will detect a drain error and stop working.
Enjoy the new washers-they are efficient, heavy duty washers that really clean your clothes!

Brand New Large Washing Machines!!
Aug 15, 2012 Six brand new large capacity washing machines have been installed. We want to keep state-of-the-art machinery in our laundromat for our customers to enjoy. We have kept the size the same with 2 six-load machines and 4 four-load machines. Not only will these machines be reliable, but they are quieter and they spin at a higher speed than the older ones.
Please be sure to look at the new soap dispenser before putting in your detergent. The detergent goes in the opening closest to you on the left. Softener goes in the back on the left and bleach goes in on the right in the back. The bleach is added one minute into the cycle and is mixed with water now. The door handle is much easier to use and has eliminated the button and has a safer lock.
We hope you enjoy the new machines!

We Have a New Hand Sink at Lunar Laundry
July 25, 2012 We have installed a hand sink for your use while at Lunar Laundry. Now you can wash your hands or fill a water bottle if needed. Please use a paper towel to clean up after yourself to make it nice for the next customer. We debated about putting in a sink for a while but believe that our customers will take good care of it. It's a bit tight with the paper towel holder but with limited space, this was the best solution.
How Much Soap Should You Use?
July 10, 2012 Over-soaping is a real problem. All of our machines are designed for low suds HE (high efficiency) soap. If using HE soap with the white machines just follow the manufacturer's recommendation. If you have regular soap, cut the amount in half.
With our large washer,s it's easy to think that you need to multiply the soap amount by 4 or 6 because that is how many loads fit in the machine. However, the amount of soap needed is just slightly more than a smaller machine. The best practice is to let the larger washers fill with water just until the clothes are wet, then add the soap slowly until you see just a few bubbles. The only trick is to finish with the soap before the water stops flowing.
Factors contributing to many bubbles: half a load with the normal amount of soap lets bubbles form in the air space, every detergent is different -- some bubble a lot, residual soap held in the clothes from the last washing,

New Detergent Pods Pose Poisoning Risk to Children
Here's a clip from a NY Times article:
Childhood poisonings from a new type of detergent packet have soared in recent weeks, experts say, with the total climbing to more than 1,200 this week from about 200 in late May.
Health authorities have been concerned since late March, when poison control centers around the country noted a small number of reports from parents whose children had opened and swallowed the brightly colored laundry detergent products, which are small enough to fit in a child’s palm and may be mistaken for candy. The detergent packets were introduced by a various companies over the winter as a convenience that can be easily dropped into a washing machine.
“The regular detergents that have been around forever don’t appear to cause the same problems, and we don’t know why,” Dr. Ruck said. “We don’t know yet what’s different about them. They’ve only been on the market a short period of time.”
Dr. Ruck warned that parents need to do more than just put these products out of the reach of children. “One of the things we’re trying to get across to parents is to not just put these up high, but to put them up very high in a locked cabinet,” he said. “You don’t want to store these on top of the washing machine or dryer, because kids will stand on chairs to get stuff. Children will find a way to get into everything.”
At Lunar Laundry, when using pods or three in one sheets, add these items with your clothing, not in the soap trays. The pods and sheets are too large and will not make their way
into the washer.

How to wash Sleeping Bags
June 27, 2012 Summer time is almost here in Seattle. Sleeping bags will provide more warmth and comfort when they are clean. When washing sleeping bags, be sure to put two or more in a machine. If you only have one sleeping bag, toss in a towel or two to help the machine properly balance. Off balance machines can't spin as quickly and the items will come out quite wet. Before adding soap it is helpful to let the big machines fill with some water and then add the soap slowly as the machine fills the rest of the way. Stop adding soap when you see a few bubbles. Remember, over soaping does not get things cleaner, just soapy and wet since bubbles don't drain well. http://www.bigagnes.com/resources/documents/WashingYourSleepingBag.pdf
